Designing the search feature of an educational website | March 2011
Applying to universities in a foreign country for further education can be an overwhelming process. An unintuitive interface can lead to user frustration.
One of the most popular features is the search box which users typically rely on when they feel lost or when there’s an information overload. In the case of education portals users prefer using advanced search boxes which contain pre-defined criterias for search.
I focused on this vital element and designed to cater to the needs of student users of the website. The design was then verified using an eye-tracking device.
The outcome was an intuitive design which was very well received.
My role: Conducted an online survey, interviewed students, conducted task analysis, developed story boards, created wireframes, final visuals and design validation with users
